So, many people think that living in San Diego means that we have practically no electric bill. I mean, we don't have crazy winter snow storms or hot, sticky, humid summers. BUT, we *DO* have weather! And, we have a appliances! And electric out here is NOT cheap! Nothing is!
So, I contacted the electric company and told them that I had had a SEVERE reduction in my income.
This was one of the EASIEST things that I have done to save money! They said they could automatically reduce my bill by up to 35%.
My total spent in 2010 went from an average of $85 per month to a little more than $65 per month - and that's with rising power costs and having two people in the house instead of one.
Signing up was easy the first year; and they just sent me a form that I had to fill out to continue for a 2nd year. It was simple, one page, sign your name, done!
You have to have a low income: less than $31,800 for 1-2 people for SDG&E for 2012, but I, sadly, qualified!
And, of course, I'm frugal with my electric, but that's another story. We'll talk about that at another time, but if you haven't contacted your electric company yet - DO IT NOW! It's so simple!
Now, don't bother calling the Water Authority - they have NO program! And neither does the Garbage Company - and getting smaller cans doesn't make a difference - it's the same price regardless. But you can see if your Garbage company has a different price for garbage versus garbage+recycle.
SDG&E's program is called "CARE" and their number is 800-560-5551. Or you can email them at billdiscount@sdge.com.
